The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Warner Bros. is interested in a Nightwing movie. The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay is currently in negotiations to direct the film and The Accountant’s Bill Dubuque is writing the script.
Nightwing, aka Dick Grayson, has been a fan favorite in the DC Universe for quite some time, first appearing in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940. As the first Robin, Grayson spent years as the sidekick to Batman, later retiring from the role of boy wonder to assume the persona of Nightwing. Nightwing was created by Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez and first appeared in Tales of the Teen Titans #44 (1984).
Studious viewers may have noticed Robin’s graffiti-covered suit in Batman v. Superman, where a note from (presumably) the Joker scrawled across the chest read “HA HA HA Joke’s on you Batman”. Director Zack Snyder commented that Robin had been killed by the Joker in this universe but whether that Joker was Grayson has not been confirmed. This ambiguity gives way to Nightwing joining the extended DC Universe some time in the future.
