Wes Craven has died at age 76.
Wes Craven, iconic creator of the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream franchises, died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. Wesley Earl Craven was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939 and went on to redefine the horror genre. From his directorial debut in The Last House on the Left in 1972 until his last project as a director, Scream 4 in 2011, Wes Craven masterfully terrified audiences around the world. He died at his home in Los Angeles and is survived by his wife, producer and former Disney Studios vice president Iya Labunka. Rest in peace Wes Craven and thank you for the nightmares.
